Professor Donna Strickland, the University of Waterloo Physics Professor, won the 2018 Nobel Prize . She shared half the award with Gerard Mourou, her PhD supervisor. She won the prize for her research work during her PhD in 1989 at the University of Rochester in New York. Her invention helps billions of people every day while using laser printer optical scanners, and laser for eye surgery.
